The Humane Education Trust Print E-mail

Welcome to the website for Animal Voice - the magazine published by the Humane Education Trust (HET) in South Africa.

The Humane Education Trust is an organisation dedicated to rekindling the spirit of care and respect for all life, and is the official mouthpiece in South Africa of Compassion in World Farming.

HET - Blazing a Trail in Humane Education

The Humane Education Trust has become a world leader in bringing humane education into every-day learning for thousands of children around South Africa.

We are committed to promoting Values in Education through Literacy and Life Orientation. By rekindling the spirit of care and respect for life, learners find a new sense of self-esteem and confidence. They begin to understand that only through their own individual actions can they begin to lay claim to their Constitutional right to Human Dignity.

Our resources, comprising both fact and fiction, are to do with promoting positive relationships with all the inhabitants of our planet. Three of our titles have been chosen for the Western Cape Education Department's 100 Books in Every Grade Project and the Humane Education Trust was accepted as a full member of the Publishers' Association of South Africa in January 2008.

For full details on all of our humane education resources, see also the Humane Education Trust website.

Water Footprint

On World Water Day (22nd March) and on every other day, for that matter, we need to remember that meat-eating carries a giant water footprint.
Did you know? It takes 13 million litres of water to raise and convert one cow or ox into meat!
Did you know? To produce one portion of beef (250g) requires the same amount of drinking water that one person needs (at one litre a day) for 34 years of life!
