Mr Gigi Bisogno
General Manager: Perishables
Pick n Pay Head Office
P O Box 23087

Dear Mr Bisogno,
Please take Pick n Pay's "Inspired by You" slogan and turn it around. This time, you inspire us! Please become accountable for the food you choose to stock. It is just too convenient for you to keep on saying that the customer must choose. Battery eggs are cruel food. Most of your customers don't know this. You are shirking your responsibility towards ethical consumerism by leaving the choice up to your customers. Please organise a phase-out of battery eggs. That would be truly inspirational! I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Mr Jordaan,
By now Compassion in World Farming(SA) will have shown you the report that reveals an inversion has taken place in the nutritional values of factory farmed chicken. What used to be a High Protein/Low Fat healthy food has now become a High Fat/Low Protein food. Food experts in the UK are suggesting that factory farmed chicken is not suitable for the athletes who will be taking part in the London Olympics in 2012. By the same token, we cannot expect Bafana Bafana to have that winning edge if they are not fed optimally. Please insist on free range chicken for our team players.
Sincerely,

Mr Rashid Parker

Dear Mr Parker,
I believe supermarkets should be held accountable for what they stock and, when it comes to cruel food, it is just too convenient for you to keep on saying that the customer must choose. Battery eggs are cruel food. Most of your customers do not know this. Please get rid of the battery eggs on your shelves and live up to your TV advertising slogan of "Eat more Naturally". I look forward to hearing from you.

Water Footprint

On World Water Day (22nd March) and on every other day, for that matter, we need to remember that meat-eating carries a giant water footprint.
Did you know? It takes 13 million litres of water to raise and convert one cow or ox into meat!
Did you know? To produce one portion of beef (250g) requires the same amount of drinking water that one person needs (at one litre a day) for 34 years of life!
