Lobbying Print E-mail

The following activities have all formed part of the lobbying done by Animal Voice and the Humane Education Trust in previous years:

  • Roll-out of the 'link' between animal cruelty and human violence in all of civil society, at schools and at police stations.
  • The inclusion of 'Sentient Being' status for animals in the South African Constitution.
  • A ban on the use of animals in science and biology classes at school level.
  • An end to long-distance transport of live animals to slaughter - in collaboration with Animals' Angels (Germany) and Compassion in World Farming (UK)
  • A ban on the selling of end-of-lay chickens live to poor communities which, ironically, end up paying more by means of this cruel method than they would by buying a chicken in a supermarket.
  • A phasing-out of the battery cage for laying hens as well as sow stalls for breeding pigs and crates for veal calves.
  • The inclusion of humane education in the South African schools syllabus.

Water Footprint

On World Water Day (22nd March) and on every other day, for that matter, we need to remember that meat-eating carries a giant water footprint.
Did you know? It takes 13 million litres of water to raise and convert one cow or ox into meat!
Did you know? To produce one portion of beef (250g) requires the same amount of drinking water that one person needs (at one litre a day) for 34 years of life!
