Lobbying |
|
|
|
The following activities have all formed part of the lobbying done by Animal Voice and the Humane Education Trust in previous years:
-
Roll-out of the 'link' between animal cruelty and human violence in all of civil society, at schools and at police stations.
-
The inclusion of 'Sentient Being' status for animals in the South African Constitution.
-
A ban on the use of animals in science and biology classes at school level.
-
An end to long-distance transport of live animals to slaughter - in collaboration with Animals' Angels (Germany) and Compassion in World Farming (UK)
-
A ban on the selling of end-of-lay chickens live to poor communities which, ironically, end up paying more by means of this cruel method than they would by buying a chicken in a supermarket.
-
A phasing-out of the battery cage for laying hens as well as sow stalls for breeding pigs and crates for veal calves.
-
The inclusion of humane education in the South African schools syllabus.
