National Animal Week Print E-mail

Dear Animal Friend – Please pass this email on to anyone you think may be interested.

National Animal Week is fast approaching and will be celebrated, as usual, between October 4th - 12th. In addition, October 2 is International Farmed Animal Day and coincides with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.

We would like to draw your attention to the wonderful humane education resources that are now available to all educators who want to play a role in developing a sense of respect for all life, among our young citizens.

Please see our resource list by going to www.het.org.za or email us for further information.

Below is a letter we received in August 2008 from the SPCA in Mthatha. It certainly warmed our hearts and we have so much more to offer now than we did in 2006. We copy it with permission, as a recommendation of our resources:

"Hi Louise

Greetings - I don’t know if you remember - we received a number of resources from the Humane Education Trust in July/August 2006, which have been pivotal in our LOCT (Life Orientation Certificate Task) programme that we started, as well as other education activities. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!

Please could you email/fax your latest pricelist to us? Besides perhaps any new materials that you might have, I am hoping that some of the videos are available now in DVD form. Especially those in IsiXhosa!

Also, would it be possible to include me on your ANIMAL VOICE mailing list? Please let me know if there is a subscription fee. The issues that I did receive were SO good and very useful for the LOCT programme too.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Regards,
Terri Lee Trow"

Water Footprint

On World Water Day (22nd March) and on every other day, for that matter, we need to remember that meat-eating carries a giant water footprint.
Did you know? It takes 13 million litres of water to raise and convert one cow or ox into meat!
Did you know? To produce one portion of beef (250g) requires the same amount of drinking water that one person needs (at one litre a day) for 34 years of life!
