Tuesday, 27 January 2009
We now know that hens see colours we can't see; that they have an amazing ability to communicate with their chicks even before the chicks hatch! Yet we impose squallor, deprivation and misery on 22.8 million laying hens every year in South Africa. Nowhere is this more blatantly apparent than when they reach their 'end-of-lay'...
Please read on and voice your protest. Supermarkets are in a position to ring in the changes for them. To see the short power-point on the plight of the end-of-lays, pdf click here 569.70 Kb. To download a poster, pdf click here 694.33 Kb.

Water Footprint

On World Water Day (22nd March) and on every other day, for that matter, we need to remember that meat-eating carries a giant water footprint.
Did you know? It takes 13 million litres of water to raise and convert one cow or ox into meat!
Did you know? To produce one portion of beef (250g) requires the same amount of drinking water that one person needs (at one litre a day) for 34 years of life!
